A ridge cap on a metal roof should never be treated like an afterthought. It should always be purpose-made for the roof system so the highest point of the roof is properly sealed, finished, and protected. The ridge is where two roof planes meet, and if that detail is handled poorly, wind-driven rain, debris, and weather intrusion can become a long-term problem. A proper metal ridge cap is formed to fit the panel profile, installed with the correct closures beneath it, and detailed so it sheds water while still allowing the roof system to function as intended. On ventilated assemblies, the ridge cap also needs to work with the venting system, not fight against it. In other words, the ridge cap is not just a trim piece for appearance. It is a critical waterproofing and finishing component of the roof system. If a metal roof is being installed, the ridge cap should always be specifically made and installed for that roof, not improvised in the field without the right fit and support.
